Urban Garden Denver Blog

Amazing garden in Seattle

I was in Seattle on May Day and I enjoyed the peak season of flowers, trees and shrubs that don’t grow in Denver. At the arboretum and Japanese Gardens just south of University of Washington, the azaleas, rhododendrons and dogwoods were astounding. Here are just a few pictures. While some people in Denver try to grow azaleas and rhododendrons, they are best suited to the northwest. In Denver, we should stick with what grows in our high desert. But a trip to a beautiful garden in another city is a treat!

So glad you got to see such beauty Carla. I was on the east coast and saw similar blooms. Since returning purchased a hardy dogwood that I’m going to find a good spot for. You’re right about our climate though – the last winter was the worst for non-returning plants.
